What is iQTS?

A plain-English guide to International Qualified Teacher Status, who it is for and how it works.

iQTS (International Qualified Teacher Status) is a UK government-approved teaching qualification for teachers working outside the UK. Successful trainees are recognised by the Department for Education as having status equivalent to QTS in England.

Who is it for? iQTS is designed for graduates teaching, or about to teach, in schools outside the UK. It works in any curriculum and any country, as long as you have regular access to a school placement.

How does it work? You combine online university study with practice in your own school, supported by a mentor. You are assessed against the Teachers' Standards for England.

What should I compare? Intake dates, mentoring support, subject specialisms, whether a PGCE is included, and fees. The free Teacher Pathways app lets you compare providers side by side.
