Assessment Only QTS
A route to Qualified Teacher Status for experienced teachers, based on assessment of your existing practice rather than training.
What it is
Assessment Only QTS recognises teachers who already demonstrate strong classroom practice. There is no taught element. Over roughly 12 weeks you evidence competence against every area of the Teachers' Standards for England, usually including observed lessons in your current school.
Who it may be relevant to
- Teachers with 2+ years of whole-class teaching experience across at least two schools
- Teachers currently employed in a school where assessment can take place
Important considerations
- Eligibility rules on experience are strict and differ slightly by provider
- You need to be ready to be assessed now; there is little training support
